The NY Tech Valley FIRST Robotics Planning Committee shares with sadness the passing of our Champion, CEG Executive Vice President Jeffrey Lawrence
Jeff was an experienced, motivated leader with more than thirty years management experience in technology commercialization, advanced manufacturing, economic development and change management at the regional, corporate and non-profit levels. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.B.A. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
As CEG’s Executive Vice President for the past 21 years, Jeff was responsible for manufacturing and technology programs, including work with the Chief Executives Network for Manufacturing. Jeff also served as the Executive Director of CEG’s NYSTAR designated Regional Technology Development Center, assisting Capital Region’s manufacturing and technology companies to innovate and grow.
As an enthusiastic Champion of FIRST Robotics, Jeff stated that, "The Center for Economic Growth is proud of all the FIRST Robotics students for truly putting the 'tech' in Tech Valley. This is an important program for cultivating the talent and passion of our youth for STEM learning, and a valuable experience for those who will ultimately go on to rewarding careers in the region's fast-growing advanced technology industries."
Jeff tirelessly shared his intellect, knowledge, experience, good nature, smile, humor and best judgment with each of us day in and day out. He made an incredible contribution over the past 30 years to the evolution and advancement of Tech Valley.
He will be missed dearly by all who knew him and worked with him.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife Sharon and his family at this difficult time.
